about
Martyrs' park is a park in memphis, tn on the banks of the mississippi river. buried there are some 15,000 people from the 19th century yellow fever outbreak and the people (martyrs) that stayed behind to care for the sick. it's a beautiful park and a girlfriend broke up with me there. this song is just one of those sad boohoo songs about the martyrs and me.
lyrics
the way you burn bridges
you'll never get back home
i never learned to swim
my heart sinks like a stone
martyrs park in the spring
we used to laugh and sing
i remember watching the clouds
lying the in clover
you were still holding my hand
when you told me it was over
martyrs park in the fall
15,000 dead and buried thats all
nothing changes on this river
except the people and their hearts
now that mine's broken
i understand this park
